In the end, Bulgakov, burned most of the manuscripts and wrote a novel about Pontius Pilate - "Grand Chancellor".
This is the first full version of "The Master and Margarita." While he's legendary novel "The Master and Margarita", contrary to popular belief - is not so much a novel as a collection of stories, made up of parts of eight different editions of the novel about the Devil and Pontius Pilate.
